The site we used it on did compete with this person, but the client site has more to lose than the author, because readers could click through to the author site from the resource box link and gain the customer instead of the client. Having YOUR article on competitorâ€™s sites is an incredible marketing coup! You should be glad anytime this happens as long as they follow your use restrictions and provide live links from the resource box at the end of your articles. The client wisely saw topical web content for their site more valuable than the concern of that external link to the author/competitor. It does immeasurable good for your link popularity as well since that link comes from a relevant and on-topic site, rather than from a useless links directory. Google is at least as interested as you are in having your ads perform well on your site. And they've gone to some work to provide the information you need to optimize your AdSense.

What's fascinating to me is that apparently not everyone bothers to read their tips. And even some that do, fail to apply it.

That said, you need to be aware that simply using their tips doesn't guarantee successful ads and decent CTR (Click Through Rate). How many times have you heard this? You have to test. You have to try alternatives and see what really works best for you, on your pages, with your content and your visitors. Test, test, test some more. Track your results, analyze them, try variations. Too many of us don't test. We hear the mantra, but we don't do the work.

First, let's see if we can get an idea about location. (The graphic is included in the article on my site or you can take a look at it at the Google link included below) Generally, above the fold, at the top center of your content, below top navigation is the hottest location. Not immediately below which is good but not quite as hot. In a left sidebar, to the immediate left of primary content or below the primary content are also good. Most other locations are generally cooler.

Again, you need to test and you need to consider your users behavior - and their behavior may vary on different pages with different kinds of content. Google suggests that in some cases, such as articles, the best location can be at the end of the article. To quote Google, "It's almost as if users finish reading and ask themselves, What can I do next?" Well targeted relevant ads right there can provide the answer.

Don't blindly assume that sticking a nice big rectangle in the center above the fold will do it. It may, but depending on your content, it may annoy or inconvenience your users.

Users tend to focus on content, navigation and to a lesser extent graphics. Positioning your ads near these elements will often work well -- if those ads are targeted to your visitors needs.

The top three performers among the Google ad formats are the 336X280 large rectangle, the 300X250 inline rectangle and the 160X600 wide skyscraper. Google reports that the wider formats tend to do better than the taller ones. One reason may be that these are, perhaps, easier to read since they have fewer line breaks and require less eye movement. But, you need to use formats that fit your pages well. Once again, you need to test, but redoing your pages to suit a particular ad format may not be a reasonable alternative and you may discover that a different format actually gets better results.

Now we come to color. Conventional wisdom says that colors which tend to blend into your content do better. Some go so far as to suggest that colors which make the ads look like part of the content are best. Personally, I think anybody really believes those ads are anything but ads, but who knows. Google suggests that you may find that colors that standout from your content do better - or maybe the opposite. This is absolutely an area where you need to test alternative color schemes. Going with the conventional wisdom usually works fairly well, but without testing you could be leaving a lot of money on the table.

Google allows you to have up to three ad units and one link unit on your pages. If you have long pages with lots of text, can only use small ad units or are in a niche with a large ad inventory, multiple units can pay off. Keep in mind that the way ad serving works is that the higher value ads are delivered to the first ad unit block encountered in your code. Always make sure that this first ad unit is displayed in the best location (yeah - test). You want the higher paying ads to be in the prime hot location on your page. Weaker locations can get the lower priced ads. And if none are available, then nothing will display unless you've included an alternate ad URL in your Google code. To maximize monetization you should be including alternate ad URLs, especially if you are putting multiple units on a page. The use of an alternate ad URL also eliminates the possibility of being served PSAs (Public Service Announcements). It's your real estate, maximize your returns.

Nothing here is secret. Except for using the alternate ad URL, all of this information is available from Google's Optimization Tips page - http://www.google.com/support/adsense/bin/static.py?page=tips.html . You can buy books and courses, visit a dozen forums and, in the end it comes down to what your visitors do on your site. The best you can get is general guidance. This means averaged outcomes over many sites, many types of content. If you are serious about doing whatever you can to really optimize your AdSense returns, there is only one thing to do - test. Whether it's AdSense, opt-ins, copy, headlines - anything with a measurable outcome that you can track - then the way to improve is to test and keep on testing.

Okay. I can hear that herd of you running away from this article as fast as you can. Absurd! You huff. Never in a million years, you fume. Writer's block is absolutely, undeniably, scientifically proven to be impossible to overcome.

I am here to tell you that writer's block can be overcome.

What is writer's block?

Well, I just can't think of a single darn thing to say. Oh well, I'm out of here!

Sound familiar? No! Oh, get real! We've all experienced this phenomenon when we absolutely have to write something, particularly on deadline. I'm talking about. . . . .uh, I can't think of what the word is. . . Oh, yes, it's on the tip of my tongue . . . it's:

WRITER'S BLOCK!!!!

Whew! I feel better just getting that out of my head and onto the page!

Writer's block is the patron demon of the blank page. You may think you know EXACTLY what you're going to write, but as soon as that evil white screen appears before you, your mind suddenly goes completely blank. I'm not talking about Zen meditation stare-at-the-wall-until-enlightenment-hits kind of blank.

I'm talking about sweat trickling down the back of your neck, anguish and panic and suffering kind of blank. The tighter the deadline, the worse the anguish of writer's block gets. Having said that let me say it again. "The tighter the deadline, the worse the anguish of writer's block gets." Now, can you figure out what might possibly be causing this horrible plunge into speechlessness?

The answer is obvious: FEAR! You are terrified of that blank page. You are terrified you have absolutely nothing of value to say. You are afraid of the fear of writer's block itself!

It doesnâ€™t necessarily matter if you've done a decade of research and all you have to do is string sentences you can repeat in your sleep together into coherent paragraphs. Writer's block can strike anyone at any time. Based in fear, it raises our doubts about our own self-worth, but it's sneaky. It's writer's block, after all, so it doesn't just come and let you know that. No, it makes you feel like an idiot who just had your frontal lobes removed through your sinuses. If you dared to put forth words into the greater world, they would surely come out as gibberish!

Let's try and be rational with this irrational demon. Let's make a list of what might possibly be beneath this terrible and terrifying condition.

1. Perfectionism. You must absolutely produce a masterpiece of literature straight off in the first draft. Otherwise, you qualify as a complete failure.

2. Editing instead of composing. There's your monkey-mind sitting on your shoulder, yelling as soon as you type "I was born?" no, not that, that's wrong! That's stupid! Correct correct correct correct?

3. Self-consciousness. How can you think, let alone write, when all you can manage to do is pry the fingers of writer's block away from your throat enough so you can gasp in a few shallow breaths? You're not focusing on what you're trying to write your focusing on those gnarly fingers around your windpipe.

4. Can't get started. It's always the first sentence that's the hardest. As writers, we all know how EXTREMELY important the first sentence is. It must be brilliant! It must be unique! It must hook your reader's from the start! There's no way we can get into writing the piece until we get past this impossible first sentence.

5. Shattered concentration. You're cat is sick. You suspect your mate is cheating on you. Your electricity might be turned off any second. You have a crush on the local UPS deliveryman. You have a dinner party planned for your in-laws. You . . . Need I say more. How can you possibly concentrate with all this mental clutter?

6. Procrastination. It's your favorite hobby. It's your soul mate. Itâ€™s the reason you've knitted 60 argyle sweaters or made 300 bookcases in your garage workshop. It's the reason you never run out of Brie.

FACE IT? ITâ€™S ONE OF THE REASONS YOU HAVE WRITER'S BLOCK!

How to Overcome Writer's Block

Oh, just get over it! Well, I guess it's not that easy. So try to sit down for just a few minutes and listen. All you have to do is listen? You don't have to actually write a single word.

Ah, there you all are again. I am beginning to make you out now that the cloud of dust is settling.

I am here to tell you that WRITER'S BLOCK CAN BE OVERCOME.

Please, remain seated.

There are ways to trick this nasty demon. Pick one, pick several, and give them a try. Soon, before you even have a chance for your heartbeat to accelerate, guess what? You're writing.

Here are some tried and true methods of overcoming writer's block:

1. Be prepared. The only thing to fear is fear itself. (I know that's a clichÃ© but as soon as you start writing, feel free to improve on it.) If you spend some time mulling over your project before you actually sit down to write, you may be able to circumvent the worst of the crippling panic.

2. Forget perfectionism. No one ever writes a masterpiece in the first draft. Don't put any expectations on your writing at all! In fact, tell yourself you're going to write absolute garbage, and then give yourself permission to happily stink up your writing room.

3. Compose instead of editing. Never, never write your first draft with your monkey-mind sitting on your shoulder making snide editorial comments. Composing is a magical process. It surpasses the conscious mind by galaxies. It's even incomprehensible to the conscious, editorial, monkey-mind. So prepare an ambush. Sit down at your computer or your desk. Take a deep breath and blow out all your thoughts. Let your finger hover over your keyboard or pick up your pen. And then pull a fake: appear to be about to begin to write, but instead, using your thumb and index finger of your dominant hand, flick that little annoying ugly monkey back into the barrel of laughs it came from. Then jump in? Quickly! Write, scribble, scream, howl, let everything loose, as long as you do it with a pen or your computer keyboard.

4. Forget the first sentence. You can sweat over that all-important one-liner when you've finished your piece. Skip it! Go for the middle or even the end. Start wherever you can. Chances are, when you read it over, the first line will be blinking its little neon lights right at you from the depths of your composition.

5. Concentration. This is a hard one. Life throws us so many curve balls. How about thinking about your writing time as a little vacation from all those annoying worries. Banish them! Create a space, perhaps even a physical one, where nothing exists except the single present moment. If one of those irritating worries gets by you, stomp on it like you would an ugly bug!

6. Stop procrastinating. Write an outline. Keep your research notes within sight. Use someone else's writing to get going. Babble incoherently on paper or on the computer if you have to.

Just do it! (I know I stole that line from somewhere?). Tack up anything that could possibly help you to get going: notes, outlines, pictures of your grandmother. Put the cookie you will be allowed to eat when you finish your first draft within sight? But out of reach. Then pick up the same type of writing that you need to write, and read it. Then read it again. Soon, trust me, the fear will slowly fade away. As soon as it does, grab your keyboard? And get writing!

In the back of my mind as I was slowly reading Chris McNeeney's sequel to his popular 'Affiliate Project X' e-book, I kept thinking this is just too mean. I would never use some of the tactics described in 'Day Job Killer'. No way boss.

It is too ruthless, too heartless and much too clever for someone like me!

First, it should be explained this e-book is a short, cut to the bone sampling of some of the affiliate marketing techniques for using PPC advertising programs such as Google Ad words to sell affiliate products. Although these marketing tactics can just as easily be applied to selling your own products.

The writing is crisp and to the point. No fluff, no filler, and just step-by-step information on what you should do to turn a profit in your Pay per Click advertising.

Second, this is not a book for beginners, you have to know the lingo and be somewhat familiar with online affiliate marketing to enjoy the full benefits. Although a complete novice could take many of the points listed here and use them, this e-book was written for those who know their CTR from their CPC. If you're already scratching your head this book is not for you. Instead, it is for someone who wants advanced marketing techniques which does require some marketing savvy to pull off.

Third, many of the marketing techniques in this book are ruthless and may not be everyone's cup of tea. It can be downright brutal, for example, there's something called CAMPAIGN NUKING - where you go in and steal an Ad words campaign from another marketer and use this book's techniques to underbid them and basically nuke their advertising campaign.

Another technique called the 'The Leveller' where you ambush a marketing guru and take his customers right from under his nose. Ingenuous ways of making sure you get the affiliate click and sales instead of the big name guru or vendor.

Personally I have been an affiliate marketer for over 5 or 6 years now and making a good full time living at it. My marketing model is slightly different since I use organic search to target my keywords; therefore the majority of my traffic and customers are supplied free. Even so, I found many helpful hints on how to improve my own online marketing.

You must also realize, building a content/organic marketing system takes months (more likely years) to create a profitable return. Using PPC programs like Google Adwords or Yahoo! Search Marketing is a totally different ball game and the returns can be almost instantaneous.

You join an affiliate program such as Click Bank, Commission Junction, Amazon pick a product, create an ad, find targeted keywords and then start a PPC campaign in a matter of hours you can be in business promoting and selling your affiliate products online.

The Catch?

There is always a catch, otherwise everyone would be quitting their day job and working on the net. No boss, no daily drive, no nosy workmates, no measly wages, and no 9to5 daily grind instead you would be working at home or wherever in the world you would love to be, you would be your own boss and most importantly you would have plenty of money to burn.

So what's the catch?

You really have to know what you're doing or you will lose money. PPC means you have to pay for each click/visitor to your site or affiliate link bid too high or make no sales and you can lose your money faster than you can say 'Quit your day job!'

However, there are those who have perfected the PPC system and are making large sums of yearly income. The authors (Chris & Ken) of this book are supposedly bringing in over 7 figures a year from their affiliate marketing.

After reading this book and examining the techniques described, there's no reason to doubt that figure. Although I would like to have seen the flip side of all those Click Bank earning graphs, i.e. how much advertising revenue was actually spent to generate those kinds of sales? But I also have been marketing long enough to realize if you know exactly what you're doing, you can make a lot of money quickly with online affiliate marketing.

The reason large sums of money can be made is because you can scale up and duplicate any profitable campaigns. Computers and automation can make handling thousands of keywords/campaigns possible and easy. Once you have figured out a profitable keyword/product/campaign just do as the book suggests - rinse and repeat.

Anyone can take the techniques in this book and use to them to increase their affiliate earnings. As an Amazon affiliate, I really appreciated the points discussed and as an affiliate marketer in general, there was a lot of useful information I can use to increase my earnings.

Keep in mind, once you have a successful site and getting plenty of targeted traffic, sometimes it is only a matter of picking the right affiliate product or changing just some simple words in your ads or on your site to greatly increase your conversions.

Anyone can take the marketing techniques described and set up their own online income source with the possibility of finally killing that day job.

But remember there is a large learning curve and it will depend (like everything in life) on your own inventive skills and personal resources. You have to be creative, manipulative, savvy and sometimes downright heartless to succeed. The more ruthless and merciless you are, the better your chances. I hope you understand we're talking $500-$1,000 a month every month for a year, and what have I done in that year for this product? Nothing, absolutely nothing. It's just new people who join my list who are getting sent two emails.
I'm going to show you what those two emails are, how I do it, and you can do this as well. You can go off and do it on this product or any product. The process is exactly the same.
This is the product. It's called Website Content Wizard by David Watson. Essentially what that does is it takes articles and it multiplies them into high-quality unique articles using fancy bits of software. You put in different variations and permutations and it's real high-quality unique content that it creates.
So what did I do to bring in this $500-$1,000 a month? Let me show you.
First off, this is the landing page. This is the page where people land after I've sent them. It's called Website Content Wizard, so I have registered the domain www.Content-Wizard.com. That is the domain I registered to promote this product. You can see why, it's pretty obvious.
On the first page that people land on, they've got a picture of David. They've got this headline and this idea about this 14-second solution to getting over this duplication penalty and not getting banned by Google by using duplicate content.
They have to put in their name and email address, and that is where they land. They land on this page after I send them via an affiliate link of course to this site. So they land on this page.
After they've opted in they're shown this page, which gives all the various benefits, the story behind the product, obviously a picture of the product, the various bonuses that you get with the product, the various articles, video tutorials, access, podcasting, etc.
It's just a standard sales page, but they've got to go through that thing first.
The other thing that this sales letter shows - and they only see this page remember after they've opted in - is this. This is a video from David Watson, the creator of this product. He takes them through and shows them how it works.

That's his kind of sales process, if you like. I wanted to show you that because that's where people end up, but what am I doing to generate that money?
Let me just take you through. Here we are on Day 1. This is the first email that people get about this product. This is the very first email they get. I only send them two emails and it earns me $500-$1,000 a month.
What am I doing in this email? Very simply just raising curiosity and raising awareness. You have to see this video - www.Content-Wizard.com. You get David's 9-minute quality video where he shows you how to create these articles in 14 seconds, and you get ten articles that you can use on your website.
I go in and I explain why it's so important. You see here, "You probably heard Google is clamping down on duplicate content," so this is a fear angle here, fear and potential pain. What happens if you do not get lots of content for your website? You may get clamped down and you're not going to get a lot of traffic.
I put here reinforcing it, "You can never have enough unique content. When you see this video you'll understand why."
So what I've done here is really just kind of raise the awareness, raise the fear and the pain that you need lots of good unique content, and if you've got duplicate content on your site you're at risk from Google, of all people, which as we know is responsible for a lot of revenue for website owners.
So I've stirred up the pain, stirred up the fear, and said "Go and check out this free video." No sale, no product, nothing - just pain, fear, and go and watch this video.
When they go off and obviously click on this link, www.Content-Wizard.com, they end up on this page and the only way they're going to get to see that video that I've talked about is by opting in.
So I'm giving David a lot of people on his list, but in my opinion it's worth that $500-$1,000 a month for me to do that. David's a great guy and he obviously converts a lot of them. A lot of them will already be on the list at this point.
They'll then scroll down and get onto this page after they've opted in, and they'll go and watch this video, so they'll see David's video.
Now this is all great, but as an affiliate it's not going to work 100% and let me tell you why. It's not going to work because it's the product owner saying that this product is great. Every product owner thinks their product is great, even the guy who's just trying to make artificial ice and sell it to Eskimos thinks his product is

great, so very few people are going to take the word as gospel from the product owner.
So although it's great that people are checking out this video and they're maybe seeing a little bit of the product in action and finding out a little bit more about it and why getting lots of good unique content on your website is a good idea, it's really not going to probably sell that many because it's just the product owner saying "My product is great."
If you take the example of Tony Robbins, the well-known motivational speaker and author and everything else, it was really only when he started getting famous people on some of his infomercials on TV that he really started to break through. I mean he was doing really well anyway, but when he started getting people coming on board and offering to say, "Look, I've used Tony's techniques," that's when things started to really take off for him.
You need to do the same thing. For the people that you're trying to sell to, don't just give them the word of the product owner, give them your word. This is what I do in the second email, so let's go and take a look at that.

However, with our fast paced lives, itâ€™s hard for many people to find the time to get started in an internet marketing business and for others itâ€™s a money issue.

A great little startup business that I have found is giving away free travel coupons. It is inexpensive and doesnâ€™t take a lot of time. You donâ€™t have to convince family and friends to buy into your business and you can work it offline.

This is what you do. Get some coupons printed up. These can just be business cards (there are places on the internet that will print them very inexpensively). Find two or three local businesses, depending on the size of the town you live in. Go to the businesses and ask it they would like to give out the coupons as an incentive to bring in customers. Tell them they are free to use the coupons in their advertising. Some businesses may want to join your business and thatâ€™s okay, but most will probably want to take advantage of the free ones.

Now expand your territory and pick a certain type of business ï¿½ï¿½" letâ€™s say car dealers. Do some research and find the email addresses of the owners or sales managers of car dealerships in several metropolitan areas. Email them with your offer of free travel coupons and let them know that you are sending the offer to other car dealers in their area. Tell them the first one to reply to your email will receive the coupons. Now pick a couple of unrelated businesses and repeat the process. You donâ€™t want too many businesses in a given area, but two or three should be fine.

Now, if you happen to have an online business already, you can use the coupon as an incentive to get people to look at your opportunity or as a thank you gift and there are lead capture pages provided.

Why would a business take you up on your offer? Businesses are always looking for ways to get people in the door and this is a great way to do that. They get more people in the door which can be more money for them and you make money when someone redeems a coupon.

Customers will be willing to visit the business because if they can receive a 3 day/2 night free hotel stay it will offset the travel expenses to get to their destination. There are many destinations available. You can get a free hotel suite in Las Vegas right off the strip. Of course, Orlando and Anaheim are on the list and there are even three destinations in Mexico.

If you want to get started making money on the internet, this would be a great business to join. After twelve months you could easily have a five figure business.
